Maui Nightlife
Maui has been consistently ranked one of the top vacation destinations in the world. It is a tropical paradise of white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water and warm weather year-round. But of all theHawaiian Islands, the Valley Isle also manages to maintain a perfect balance of fun-in-the-sun daytime activities and dancing-by-moonlight nightlife.
There’s an eclectic array of entertainment on Maui.Whether you’re looking to relax with a couple tropical cocktails, ordance the night away to a live reggae band, there’s something foreveryone heading out after dark. And the options aren’t limited to anyone specific area.

WEST SIDE:
On the West Side, most nighttime activity is located on Lahaina Town’s historic Front Street strip, with the crowd following particular bars different days of the week. Monday nights are popular at the Hard Rock Café for live reggae with Marty Dread and the Kryptones. Music starts at 10pm with a packed dance floor until 1:30 am. Tuesdays mean a youthful and raucous scene at Moose McGillycuddy’s, for DJ dancing and dollar drink specials, with a $5 cover. On Fridays, Longhi’s is theplace to be, with a live band and dancing until 2am.
For a chilled-out after-hours crowd, Lahaina Store Grille & Oyster Bar offers DJ dancing 10pm until closing. Or check out the after-dinner live jazz at Pacific’o on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9 pm to midnight. No cover.
If it’s magic and comedy you want, you’ll get it at Warren & Annabelle’s, where you’ll experience a two-hour, interactive magic show with sleight-of-hand master, Warren Gibson. Or if you’re into a unique theatrical production, check out ‘Ulalena — an innovative retelling of ancient Hawaiian myths using song, dance and stunning acrobatics.
Venture a couple miles up to the resort area of Ka’anapali, and you’ll find Spats Trattoria — home to a packed and lively crowd of DJ dancing on Saturday nights until 3 am. $15 cover. Drive even further up the road to Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar,the happening spot to go late night Thursdays and Fridays for karaoke, drink specials and half-priced sushi. Open 10 pm to 1 am.
Kihei’s Kalama Village is home to several bars with varying nighttime entertainment. South Shore Tiki Lounge is a fun and lively little nook that features live music and dancing nightly, 9 pm to 2 am and no cover. LuLu’s features salsa, DJs and karaoke nights in their expansive, tiki-fied bar, also with no cover. And Life’s a Beach is a popular hangout for live rock and reggae bands, cheap drinks and rowdy partiers.
Sports Page Grill & Bar is the place to go shoot pool and hang out with the locals. There’s also live music nightly after 9:30 pm until 2 am with never a cover,and has been voted the best place on Maui to watch Monday NightFootball.
The Maui Arts & Cultural Centeris the island’s premier hub for big-name acts and stage productions.Everyone who’s anyone in the music and entertainment industry, fromPrince to Tony Bennett, Margaret Cho to the Shanghai Circus hasperformed here, with weekly events that also include internationalballet companies, local theatrical productions and symphonies. The Candlelight Café & Cinemais a Wednesday affair presented by the Maui Film Festival that featuresscreenings of independent and Academy-worthy films, with live music,food, cocktails and socializing under the stars in the courtyard beforeand after the movie. The historic Iao Theaterhouses seasonal productions from local theater companies, as well asthe occasional poetry slam or battle of the bands. Check their onlineschedule at www.mauionstage.com.
Kahului Ale House is a big, fun bar that features a weekly lineup of live music and DJs, with special priority given to televised sports events.
Café Marc Aurelis Maui’s only wine bar, with eclectic live music — indie, folk rock,country, international — every weekend, open mic night on Mondays, livejazz every other Thursday and belly dancing once a month. Open Mondaythrough Saturday, 7 am to 11 pm or later.
Casanovais upcountry’s prime spot for dancing with Ladies’ Night on Wednesdaysand is a quaint venue for live entertainment — local andmainland-imported — of all genres on Fridays and Saturdays, open until1:30 am.
Stopwatch Sports Bar is acasual place to check out local rock, folk, blues and country bands onFridays and Saturdays, with only a $3 cover and a friendly local crowd.
For the young and attractive international crowd, Jacques is always the place to be on Friday nights for dancing until 2 am.
Down-home saloon Charley’s (Closed teporarily due to fire) has been slinging drinks for the thirsty for over 20 years and evenboasts Maui resident Willie Nelson as one of its esteemed regulars.They host local and imported rock, blues, country and reggae bands, DJdancing, and an occasional night of live jazz Thursday throughSaturday.
