A coffeehouse by day, Café Marc Aurel offers more than 90 glasses of wine, an urban chic ambience, and an eclectic, tapas-style menu of exotic cheeses, Mediterranean appetizers, salads and breads in the evening. Freshly baked pastries and sandwiches are offered all day.

Café Marc Aurel Around
6 pm, the atmosphere at Marc Aurel’s Espresso and Wine Bar conveys the
subdued joy of the end of a work day…in Europe. Brick red walls,
glowing wooden flooring, dim lighting, and an outdoor patio of rustic
metal tables evoke a leisurely bistro feel.
We began with two flights (1.5 oz) of white wine: a California
Truchard Roussane and an Italian pinot grigio by Livon Dolegnano. Wine
also comes by the glass and bottle, but the 10 pages of wine choices
tempted us to sample several…like the Handley Cellars gewurztraminer
and the Rosenblum Viognier. From the red wines, my friend chose a
Spanish blend by Terra Alta, while I sampled Duckhorn’s Paraduxx.
We nibbled on a small Cheese and Meat platter, a sampling of air cured
beef, prosciutto, black forest ham, smoked German sausages, and two
cheeses: we picked a smoked gouda and a triple-cream brie. Crusty
French bread, olives, dolmas, and kalamata tapenade accompanied the
plate. The Lox Salad had slices of smoked salmon layered atop fresh
greens, finished with a tangy lemon vinaigrette. Mediterranean Tacos
rounded out our meal: hummus lined a warm pita, topped with tomatoes,
feta, and basil.
This is a place to take your time — with the wine, conversation, and
music. The warm, helpful, and unrushed service, along with the rustic
wholesome food, kept us sampling the wines and enjoying the spirited
ambiance of Café Marc Aurel.
