Roy's Restaurant
Celebrated Chef Roy Yamaguchi is one of Maui’s culinary treasures. World-famous for his creativity and passion, Roy masterminded Hawaiian Fusion cuisine in the early 1990s.

Roy's Signature Chocolate SouffleEvery night at his restaurants – 34 locations including Tokyo, San Francisco, Austin, and New York – the evening’s menu is created anew based on what’s fresh that day. The result is a range of meticulous seafood and meat dishes that combine island ingredients with techniques, spices, and sauces from places as disparate as Europe and Asia.

The servers are knowledgeable and easy-going guides to both the excellent wine list and the evening’s menu. When available, we particularly like the tangy and sweet misoyaki butterfish. Another favorite is the ahi seared with a crunchy wasabi pistachio nut crust. The almost-sweet tuna loves the wasabi’s heat, and we have personally seen three people lick the avocado mousse from the plate.

Wearing out the menu is practically impossible, but when we’re in the mood for a good steak we come here for the fresh cuts and the masterful sauces. The pupu (appetizer) menu often has the most interesting dishes, and the kitchen will happily course out small plates for you. The Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé dessert is a must-order.

While some find Roy’s too noisy to be romantic, we like the joyful bustle (it makes us feel like we’re back in the big city). Kids feel at home with the friendly servers, high chairs, crayons, and a toy bin.

The keiki menu features a four-course fixed-price dinner, with the first course of cheese quesadilla triangles appearing before you even get settled. Vegetables, fruit, and a tangy dip follow immediately afterward. Keiki entrees include a choice of short ribs, chicken, fish, or pasta, and a homemade ice cream sandwich finishes them off. The moving parade keeps keiki focused on chewing rather than squawking, and the kitchen is accommodating of special requests (for adults as well as children).
