Ruby’s Diner is a spotless, open, and cheerful way to fix your craving for very good burgers, terrific milkshakes, crispy shoestring fries, vanilla cokes, and other American comfort food standards.
Styled like a 1950s diner with a pan-pacific theme, an airplane hangs from the ceiling with propellers slowly twirling. Servers in red-and-white-striped uniforms hustle your order, and if it’s your birthday the entire staff gathers to sing and clap. This is good old-fashioned fun.
We like the thick and juicy burgers wrapped in wax paper to keep toppings from spilling. Salads, sandwiches, and entrees are available, and although nothing is over-the-top fantastic, we always find a good-as-an-east-coast-diner meal here. We also like the prices, especially for Maui.
The milkshakes are thick and decadent and well worth the $5 investment. Flavors range from black cherry to winter mint to double chocolate and beyond. If you share, one shake can be split into two tall glasses each with their own whipped cream and cherry. Of course, if you want it all to yourself – and we understand why you would – that’s fine, they’ll bring it to you in the mixing container.
This casual restaurant is a kids’ haven, with toys or coloring sets provided immediately, free ice cream cones with their meals, and a special menu featuring everything from grilled cheese to corn dogs to burgers and chicken fingers. Kid-sized sodas, milkshakes, and floats make sure they don’t feel left out at the soda bar.
